Tissot: A Short History
Tissot watches are one of the most sought after brands today. This is because the watches from this brand have all been proven to be reliable and of high quality. As a result, they are part of the globally renowned brands that manufacture watches. And even if their prices reach sky high, there is no denying the fact that people still flock to be able to buy an item.
In 1853, Charles-Felicien Tissot started a company together with his son, Charles-Emile. Together, they created a watch manufacturing empire that would later on be known throughout the world as Tissot. With its initial factory located in Le Locle, Swiss, the duo set off to create watches that would soon be sold everywhere in the world. And because the watches that bear the Tissot name have all been created with high grade materials, it is easy to understand why these watches have become the standard for gentlemen to wear.
Over the years, the brand has been able to create innovations in watches that have been greatly accepted worldwide. These watches have been able to start a frenzy which other brands try to imitate. Among its most popular creations is the Astrolon, which was created in 1930. The Tissot Astrolon was the first anti-magnetic watch that has been produced. Other innovations that the brand has been known for include the following: first watch containing a plastic casing (Rock watch) 1971, first watch that has an alpine granite material for a casing in 1985, first watch that had a mother of pearl casing (Pearl watch) 1986, and the first to produce a watch with a casing made from wood (Wood watch) in 1987. To add to their lineup, the brand has also been able to launch its very first Auto Quartz models complete with 6 day autonomy in 1996.
Recently, Tissot has been given a recognition for the T-Touch watch collection in 2001 that had seven additional features that can be activated with a touch of the crystal on the watch. This is due to the unique tactile technology which has been developed with the many Swatch Group companies. As a matter of fact, the T-Touch watch has been featured on several Angelina Jolie movies such as Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.
Aside from Angelina Jolie, the other famous people who are fond Tissot wearers include Sarah Bernhardt, Elvis Presley, Carmen Miranda, Grace Kelly, and Nelson Mandela. The brand should not be confused with another watch manufacturer called Mathey- Tissot.
