Victorinox is a brand which has been in operations since 1884. Ever since this date, the brand has largely been associated with their Swiss army and pocket knives. But it is their partnership with the Swiss Army that has made a mark on the brand’s history. After manufacturing these knives, Victorinox would deliver them to the Swiss Army so they could be used in 1891. Each of these knives bore the ever familiar emblem of the brand: a cross covered by a shield. This logo has been used since 1909. And this was also the year that the mom of Katl Elsener, the founder of Victorinox, passed away. In a way to honor his mother, he changed the name of the company to Victoria.
Victoria then became Victorinox in 1921. The ‘inox’ term is a French word which means stainless steel. It is the perfect term as the brand has been manufacturing stainless steel knives which are of the best quality. In addition, it is the right amalgamation of a feminine feel which best incorporates the materials used which hare strong and utilitarian. And for this, the Victorinox name is considered as suitably fitting to the brand and its products.
In 2005, the brand has acquired Wenger. This is another company which is also an official supplier of Swiss Army knives. Although Wenger remains as a subsidiary of Victorinox, these two brands are still working hard to retain their distinct entity names. Some of the other new developments of the brand include a credit card called the SwissCard. This card has the size of a business card and has features of a short non folding knife, pair of scissors, tweezers, and a small file. There are still other gadgets that are included in this new development. They have also expanded to high end kitchen cutlery and watches.
